Choosing a therapist can feel like you are ordering off the Cheesecake Factory Menu
Since 2021, I have learned that the more specific I can be in who I am best able to help, the more effective I can be as a therapist. Not sure if you’ve ever been to the Cheesecake Factory, but that menu is overwhelming. Like therapy, there is a large variety of issues that people struggle with and there is no way I can be good at treating all of them. I have realized that working with couples and individuals with relationship concerns is my specialty.
I have invested time in learning how to work with couples and individuals through the Gottman Method and implementing psychodynamic approaches to unlocking past experiences. When processing past experiences, some memories may feel more distressing than others. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapeutic approach that can help reduce the emotional intensity of these memories, especially when they seem as though they are still happening in the present.
What is the Gottman Method?
The Gottman Method is a research-based approach to couples therapy that helps improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen emotional connections. It provides practical tools to deepen understanding, build trust, and create a lasting, fulfilling relationship. By learning to handle disagreements in a healthy way and fostering positivity, couples can improve intimacy and build a stronger bond.
What is psychodynamic therapy?
Psychodynamic therapy helps you uncover how your past experiences and unconscious feelings shape your current thoughts and behaviors. By exploring these connections, you can gain deeper insight into yourself and develop healthier ways to respond to life's challenges.
What is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy designed to help you process and heal from distressing or traumatic memories. When something overwhelming happens, your brain sometimes stores that memory in a way that makes it feel as though it’s still happening, causing emotional or physical distress.
During EMDR, we use guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation (like tapping) while you briefly recall the difficult memory. This helps your brain process the memory in a healthier way, reducing its emotional charge, so it feels less intense and decreases the impact on your present. EMDR is a highly effective, research-backed method that can help you feel calmer and more in control of your responses.
